다른 사람의 탐욕에 대해 강하게 나무라는 사람이 실상은 가장 탐욕적인 사람이다. 탐욕적이지 않은 사람은 아무도 없는 것이 사실인데도 자신은 마치 전혀 탐욕적이지 않은 사람인 것처럼 도덕적 우월감을 휘두르기 때문이다. 도덕적 우월감은 자신이 원하는 것을 얻기 위해 자신이 원하는 그것에 아무도 다가가지 못하도록 미리 방패를 치는 것이기 때문이다.

The person who most vehemently condemns another's greed is, in reality, the most greedy of all. This is because while it's true that no one is entirely free of greed, they brandish a sense of moral superiority as if they were completely untouched by it. This moral superiority is merely a pre-emptive shield to keep others from approaching what they themselves desire.

It is a paradox that the people who most strongly denounce greed in others are often the most greedy themselves. Since no one is truly free from greed, they wield a false moral high ground to pretend they are the exception. This moral superiority serves as a shield, preventing others from pursuing the very thing they covet.
